From Lillehammer, NOR
(November 20, 2022) – Max Illmann once again found himself atop the European Cup four-man podium, winning his second straight in Lillehammer.
Illmann and his four-man crew opened up a near .3 second advantage over Latvia’s Emils Cipulis. On the second run, Illmann was out-driven by the big Latvian, but not by enough to unseat the German from the top spot.
The gold for Illmann was the second of his career and second straight.
Latvia’s Cipulis and his crew had the quickest start in both heats on their way to a silver medal, his second straight.
Romania’s Mihai Tentea finished third, his best ever finish in a senior-level IBSF event.
Behind Tentea, Switzerland’s Timo Rohner finished fourth, .08 off the podium. Czechia’s Dominik Dvorak and Latvia’s Jekabs Kalenda rounded out the top six.
The sixth place finish for Kalenda was his best ever as a pilot.
Great Britain’s John Stanbridge finished 12th.
