From Park City, USA
(November 18, 2022) – South Korea’s Jinsu Kim won his first career IBSF North American Cup gold medal on Friday in Park City.
Kim, a former brakeman for Korean legend Yunjong Won, had the fast start time and fast downtime of the first heat alongside brakeman Hyunwoo Jung. The time of 48.92 was enough to open up a .22 second lead over American Geoff Gadbois.
On the second run it was Gadbois and brakeman Quentin Willey with the quick downtime of the heat. However, Kim’s second run was enough to keep his Korean sled ahead with an overall downtime .16 ahead of the American.
Kim’s victory was his second ever, with the first coming in an IBSF Sanctioned race at the Alpensia Sliding Center in Pyeongchang.
The silver for Gadbois was his best finish since a trio of silvers in the 2019/2020 North American Cup season in Lake Placid.
Czechia’s Adam Dobes finished third for his best finish since a gold in Lillehammer one season ago. It also came in his first ever start as a pilot in North America.
Trinidad & Tobago’s Axel Brown finished fourth for his best ever finish as a pilot, and Trinidad & Tobago’s best ever IBSF finish.
Canada’s Pat Norton and Orion Edwards finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The remainder of the field consisted of American pilots Kristopher Horn, Zachery Snyder, and Derek White in seventh, eighth, and ninth respectively. Horn and Snyder were making their first career starts as pilots, while White was making his second.
