From St. Moritz, SUI
Feb. 23, 2021 – Sweden’s Sebastian Westin came from behind to win his first gold of the 2020/2021 Para Sport World Cup season, edging out Jonas Frei for the honors.
Entering the second heat, Westin trailed Switzerland’s Frei by .07, with Latvia’s Arturs Klots also in the mix in third. On the second run Westin set the fastest time of the race to put pressure on the Swiss pilot. Frei could not answer, finishing .14 back in the heat and .07 behind in the race to win silver, his second of the season.
Westin’s gold medal was the third of his career.
Canadian Lonnie Bissonnette finished third, .22 behind Frei. The bronze was the second in a row for Bissonnette and his third medal of the season.
Switzerland’s Christopher Stewart finished fourth, jumping up from eighth after the first heat. After three races he holds a two point lead over Bissonnette in the World Cup standings.
Germany’s Nikolai Johann and Slovenia’s Ziva Lavrinc rounded out the top six.
Great Britain’s Corie Mapp finished just outside of the top ten in 11th.
