From Königssee, GER
Feb. 20, 2021 – Switzerland finished the Women’s Monobob World Series in fashion, going one-two in Königssee in the season finale.
Martina Fontanive entered the second heat .25 behind teammate Melanie Hasler. On that second run Fontanive set the quick time, with Hasler .25 slower to end the race in a tie for gold, the first of its kind in Women’s Monobob World Series action.
Australia’s Breeana Walker finished third despite the fifth quickest run in both heats.
Great Britain’s Mica McNeill fell to fourth, .05 behind Walker, on her second run. Germany’s Lisa Buckwitz struggled on her second effort to fall from third to a tie for fifth with Nadezhda Sergeeva.
Romania’s Andreea Grecu finished seventh, just .02 behind Bucktwitz and Sergeeva.
Despite not running any of the races in Europe, the United States’ Nicole Vogt won the season-long Monobob World Series title on the strength of a dominating season in North America. Vogt won four of the five races that she entered, while Walker struggled in the two World Cup tie-in races to fall back. Brazil’s Marina Silva Tuono finished the season in third.
