From Königssee, GER
Feb. 20, 2021 – Romania’s Mihai Tentea came from behind in Königssee to win his first gold medal in 2021.
Tentea was third coming into the second heat, just .03 behind Germany’s Maximilian Illmann and .02 behind Switzerland’s Michael Kuonen. On the second run Tentea put down the fastest run of the race to take the lead with just Kuonen and Illmann to go. Neither slider could match Tentea’s pace, with Illmann finishing .12 behind Tentea to give the Romanian the gold.
Illmann held on for second, with Kuonen third.
Germany’s Hans Peter Hannighofer finished fourth, only .02 out of silver, while Romain Heinrich and Jonas Jannusch tied for fifth.
Great Britain’s Adam Baird finished 12th, four spots ahead of teammate James Brown. Brown jumped up from 19th to 16th on the strength of his second run. John Stanbridge finished out the British effort in 19th.
Jamaica’s Shanwayne Stephens finished just outside of the top 20 in 21st, while Liechtenstein’s Martin Kranz finished in 23rd.
