Feb. 18, 2021 – Alina Tararychenkova won gold in the final race of the 2020/2021 European Cup skeleton season, beating out Italy’s Alessia Crippa for the top honors.
The Russian set the two fastest times of the race, cruising to a .87 second victory to win gold in her only European Cup start of the season. It was her third straight gold medal on the European Cup tour and sixth overall.
Crippa edged out Anastasiia Tsyganova for second by just .02 seconds to win her third silver medal in four European Cup races. All three have come in Igls.
Austria’s Julia Erlacher finished fourth, just .05 ahead of Great Britain’s Freya Tarbit, who finished fifth in her first ever IBSF international race. France’s Agathe Bessard finished sixth for her seventh top six in eight European Cup races.
Two British sliders made their way into the top ten, with Amelia Kellyman scoring a ninth place finish in her first IBSF international competition. Rachel Hanagan finished 15th for Team GB, while Amelia Coltman finished 16th in her first race coming back from injury.
Germany’s Stefanie Votz finished the race in seventh place, one spot ahead of teammate Hanna Staub, and with those finishes Votz and Staub finished in first and second overall in the European Cup points. Corina Leipold, who only competed in three races but medaled in all three, finished the season in third.
