Jan. 17, 2021 – Italy won their second straight FIL World Cup natural track team competition, beating out a tough Austrian team.
Evelin Lanthaler was the fastest woman in the field by well over a second to give Italy a huge advantage going into Patrick Pigneter’s leg of the run. While Pigneter couldn’t match the time set by Thomas Kammerlander, he was plenty quick enough to keep Italy in the lead as he crossed the finish line.
Austria finished second, with Kammerlander overcoming a deficit set by Tina Unterberger on her run. Russia finished third, with both Ekateirna Lavrenteva and Grigory Bukin setting the third quickest times in their respective legs.
Ukraine finished fourth, with Germany finishing fifth. Sara Bachmann had the second quickest run of the women for Germany.
