(Jan. 15, 2021) – The team of Patrick Pigneter & Florian Clara stayed perfect on the 2020/2021 season, beating out their Italian teammates for gold in Passeier.
Pigneter & Clara opened up a half-second lead on teammates Patrick & Matthias Lambacher in the first heat. On the second run, the Lambachers set what was then the fastest run of the race to ease into the lead ahead of Russians Pavel Porshnev & Ivan Lazarev. Pigneter & Clara came down last and, as expected, were the fastest of the race on their way to a .61 second lead over the Lambachers.
The gold for Pigneter & Clara were their third straight to start the 2020/2021 season, while the silver for Lambacher & Lambacher was their second on the season.
Porshnev & Lazarev finished third in their first race of the season, just ahead of Fabian & Simon Achenrainer. Christoph Regensburger & Dominik Holzknecht and Stanislav Kovshik & Ilia Tarasov rounded out the top six in the nine sled field.
With three races to go in the season, Italy sits one-two in the standings, with Pigneter & Clara 60 points clear of Lambacher & Lambacher. Regensburger & Holzknecht are third, 90 points out of the lead.
