From Passeier, ITA
(Jan. 15, 2021) – Evelin Lanthaler led a sweep of the women’s luge podium in Passeier, Italy in the third stop of the FIL World Cup natural track tour.

Lanthaler and teammate Greta Pinggera tied with matching 57.38 downtimes in the first heat, with both women just ahead of Daniela Mittermair in third. Mittermair came down as the leader with just Lanthaler and Pinggera to go. Lanthaler put down the fastest run of the race on her second effort, and while Pinggera was quick, she couldn’t match Lanthaler’s time.
Lanthaler’s win was her 17th in 18 races, while Pinggera’s silver was her fourth straight dating back to the 2019/2020 season.
The bronze for Mittermair was her second career medal. Her first came in the season opener.
Ekaterina Lavrenteva made her first start of the 2020/2021 season and finished fourth, just ahead of Austrlia’s Tina Unterberger in fifth. Unterberger’s teammate Michelle Diepold rounded out the top six.
At the halfway point of the FIL World Cup season the top three in the points sit just as they’ve run for the majority of the season, with Lanthaler holding a 45 point lead over Pinggera. Mittermair is third, 20 points ahead of the only other medalist this season, Tina Unterberger.
The FIL World Cup’s fourth stop will also be in Passeier.
