From Park City, USA
Feb. 15, 2020 – Canadian Lonnie Bissonnette edged out Sebastian Westin-Vippola for gold in Park City by .04 to take over the IBSF Parabobsled World Cup lead with one race remaining.
BIssonnette put down the fastest run of the race to open up a sizable lead over Italy’s Fabrizio Caselli and Westin-Vippola.
On the second run Westin-Vippola set the quick run of the heat and Caselli could not answer. The Italian’s second run was only 13th quickest, slow enough to drop him out of the medals. That left the door open for Bissonnette, who could only muster a run nearly .6 slower than Westin-Vippola’s trip down but enough to win by .04.
Westin-Vippola finished second, while Dave Nicholls jumped up from fifth to third in the second heat.
Caselli finished fourth, just ahead of Christopher Stewart and Sarah Frazier-Kim who rounded out the top six.
Corie Mapp, the points leader coming into Park City, finished tenth. That, combined with Bissonnette’s win dropped the Brit behind the Canadian in the World Cup points with just one race remaining.
