From Igls, AUT
Feb. 1, 2020 – Jonas Jannusch finished out a strong 4-man European Cup season with a victory in Igls, claiming the season title as well.
The German junior was the quickest in both heats to beat out Latvia’s Ralfs Berzins by .21.
Jannusch’s 4-man gold medal was his fourth in eight races on the European Cup circuit.
Berzins edged out Germany’s Richard Oelsner for silver by .02. The two pilots were separated by that margin going into the second heat, and set equal times on their second run, giving Berzins silver and Oelsner bronze.
Hans Peter Hannighofer finished fourth, ahead of teammate Philipp Zielasko in fifth. Maximilian Illmann helped put five German sleds in the top six with a sixth place run.
Oskars Melbardis finished just out of the top six, tied for seventh with Patrick Baumgartner. The Olympic 4-man gold medalist’s seventh place effort was enough to finish the European Cup 4-man season in second overall. He also finished the season with the Bobsled Combined title, just ahead of Mihai Tentea.
