From Igls, AUT
Jan. 31, 2020 – Kim Kalicki, making her only start in the European Cup this season, won gold in the season finale in Igls.
The German slider had the two fastest times of the race on her way to a .29 secon win over Russia’s Lubov Chernykh, making her first European Cup start of the season herself.
Kalicki has entered only three races over the course of the 2019/2020 IBSF season to this point, and has won a medal in all three. She began the season in the World Cup, winning silver and bronze in Lake Placid, but was then unseated for her World Cup spot by Laura Nolte in team trials. The Igls race was her first international action since those selection races.
Chernykh last raced in the European Cup in January of 2019, winning gold in Sigulda.
Andrea Grecu won bronze, and with it the 2019/2020 European Cup title. She joined Mihai Tentea as the first Romanians to win an overall title since Nicolae Istrate in the 2009/2010 season.
Russia’s Alena Osipenko finished fourth, ahead of teammate Polina Nazaruk in fifth. Anne Lobenstein rounded out the top six in sixth.
Canada’s Cynthia Appiah and Melissa Lotholz finished 11th and 14th, respectively, while Nicole Vogt finished just behind them in 15th in the lone American sled in the field.
Australia’s Bree Walker finished tenth, while teammate Ashleigh Werner finished 21st.
