From Igls, AUT
Jan. 31, 2020 – Rostislav Gaitiukevich won his second straight bobsled race in Igls, winning 4-man gold the day after winning the season-ending 2-man race.
The Russia junior set the quick time in both heats on his way to a .23 victory over Ralfs Berzins and Jonas Jannusch, who tied for silver.
The gold was the second 4-man gold on the European Cup season for Gaitiukevich
Jannusch’s silver medal was his fifth medal in seven European Cup races, and enough to clinch the 4-man title. The German has enough points to score zero points in the finale and still edge Gaitiukevich by 2 points on the yera.
Berzins silver was his second straight EC medal and his fifth in his last seven European Cup races.
Hans Peter Hannighofer finished fourth, with teammate Maximilian Illman fifth, while Alexander Bredikhin rounded out the top six in sixth place.
Olympic gold medalist Oskars Melbardis continued his return from injury with an eighth place finish, two places ahead of European Cup 2-man champion Mihai Tentea.
Tentea and Melbardis will go into the final European Cup bobsled race of the season separated by one point in the Bobsled Combined standings, with Jannusch a distance third.
