From Deutschnofen, ITA
Jan. 26, 2020 – Thomas Kammerlander won his second gold medal of the season, coming from behind to take the victory in Deutschnofen.
The Austrian slider came into the second heat in third, .14 behind leader Alex Gruber. On the second trip down the Italian course, Kammerlander set the quick time of the heat to move into the leader’s box with Patrick Pigneter and Gruber to come.
Pigneter’s second run was .17 slower than Kammerlander’s, putting him .14 behind the Austrian. Gruber was the final slider down, and couldn’t match either Kammerlander or Pigneter’s downtime. The win went to Kammerlander, silver to Pigneter, and the bronze to Gruber.
Grigory Bukin finished fourth, ahead of MIchael Scheikl and Florian Glatzl, who rounded out the top six.
Kammerlander’s win stretched his lead to 20 points ahead of Pigneter and 25 points ahead of Gruber.
