From Altenberg, GER
Jan. 24, 2020 – Alina Tararychenkova won her second gold of the 2019/2020 IBSF European Cup season in Altenberg, edging out France’s Agathe Bessard and Great Britain’s Amelia Coltman for the top spot.
Coltman carried a .07 second lead over Tararychenkova into the second heat. On the second run, though, it was Tararychenkova setting the fast time of the heat to move into the lead with only Coltman to come. The British slider couldn’t match Tararychenkova’s time, falling to third at the end of her run and giving the Russian her second victory of the season and third in her career.
Bessard finished second, .34 behind the Russian, while Coltman finished third.
Italian Valentina Margaglio moved up from seventh in the first heat to finish fourth on the strength of the fastest start in each heat. Germany’s STefanie Votz and Latvia’s Darta Zunte rounded out the top six.
Coltman holds the European Cup point lead going into the final race on Saturday, 27 points ahead of Endija Terauda Terauda. Hanna Staub sits third, seven points ahead of Tararychenkova. The Russian has only started four of the seven races on the season.
Great Britain’s Hannah Stevenson finished 12th, one spot ahead of Rachel Hanagan in 13th.
Kristen Hurley finished 19th in her first race in Altenberg.
