From Igls, AUT
Jan. 11, 2020 – Amedeo Bagnis once again won gold in European Cup skeleton action, his third straight.
Bagnis carried a .19 second advantage over Felix Seibel into the second heat. On his second run, the Italian set the second-quickest time of the day, which was more than enough to give him the win.
Great Britain’s Matt Weston had the fastest run of the day in the second heat to move up from fifth to second, .21 ahead of Japan’s Hiro Takahashi.
Takahashi’s bronze medal was his second straight after going a decade without a medal prior to the 2020 Igls stop.
Stefan Röttig finished fourth, falling out of the medals by one spot. Teammate Cedric Renner finished fifth, while American Samoa’s Nathan Crumpton finished sixth.
Great Britain’s second day in Igls was far better than their first, with three men in the top ten. Ben Fulker finished eighth, one spot ahead of Laurence Bostock in a tie for ninth.
Austin McCrary finished just out of the top 20 in 21st as the lone American in the field.
