Jan 7, 2020 – Nick Cunningham won his first North American Cup gold medal since making a comeback earlier in the season, edging out teammate Geoff Gadbois for the top spot in the final 2-man race of the season.
Cunningham came into the second heat .07 behind Gadbois, but put down the fastest run of the race on his second run to move into the lead. Gadbois’ second run, while the third quickest of the heat, was not enough to hold onto the gold medal position.
Cunningham, the 2016/2017 NAC champion, finished the race with a gold medal, just .02 ahead of Gadbois.
Canada’s Taylor Austin finished third. He had clinched the 2-man title prior to Race 8, so the final race of the season was more of a victory lap for the Canadian.
Austin’s teammate Patrick Norton finished fourth, with Frank Del Duca of the United States in fifth and Jeff McKeen of Canada in sixth.
Sam Moeller finished seventh to round out the American effort.
Austin took the NAC 2-man title, with teammate Norton in second. Cunningham finished third despite missing the first two races of the season.
