From Lake Placid, USA
Jan. 7, 2020 – Wenhao Chen had three starts on the IBSF North American Cup tour, and won all three events.
In the final event of the 2019/2020 IBSF NAC season, Chen was the quickest off the top in both heats, but came into the second run just behind American Daniel Barefoot and Chinese teammate Hayisaer Asaierhzi. On his second run, Chen put down the quickest run of the heat, and it was enough to edge Barefoot by .06 to take his third straight NAC gold.
Barefoot took silver, his first career IBSF medal, while Chinese slider Zilong Zhu jumped up from sixth to win bronze.
American Chris Strup moved from fifth to finish fourth, while Asaierhzi fell to fifth, and Spanish slider Ander Mirambell finished sixth.
With his sixth place finish, Mirambell won his second IBSF North American Cup title, with his first coming in the 2015/2016 season. Strup finished second overall, while American Samoa’s Nathan Crumpton finished third overall despite missing the final three events.
It was a solid final race of the season on home ice for the Americans, with Kyler Sultemeier helping put three American sleds in the top ten with his tenth place finish. Hunter Williams rounded out the USA’s effort with a 15th place finish.
James Airey was the top finishing Canadian in ninth. Teammate Troy Wilson moved up from 14th to 12th with his second run, while David Park and Jordan Rwiyamilira finished 17th and 18th respectively.
