From Lake Placid, USA
Jan. 7, 2020 – American Mystique Ro finished her North American Cup season in style, winning her second straight NAC gold in Lake Placid.
Ro sat in third after the first heat, but put down the fastest run of the race on her second trip down Mt. Van Hoevenberg on her way to a .2 second win over first heat leader Jaclyn LaBerge.
LaBerge’s second run was the third quickest of the heat, and enough to hang onto first NAC silver since March of 2016 (Park City).
South Korea’s Eunji Kim finished with her third bronze medal of the season.
The silver for LaBerge was her first since March of 2016 in Park City.
China’s Min Huang finished fourth, ahead of Race 6 winner Kellie Delka and the United States’ Michelle Toukan in fifth and sixth, repectively.
Lauren McDonald finished her 2019/2020 NAC season with a 12th place finish as the third American sled, while Emily Shelberg had trouble prior to Curve 14 and did not finish.
Natalie Coughlin helped put two Canadian sleds in the top ten with her eighth place finish. Teammate Grace Dafoe finished a season-best 11th, while Janelle Khan rounded out the Canadian effort.
With her bronze medal, Eunji Kim won the North American Cup women’s skeleton title, finishing 72 points ahead of Brazil’s Nicole Silveira. Ro finished third overall, three points ahead of teammate Lauren McDonald.
