From Königssee, GER
Dec. 22, 2019 – Andreea Grecu went into the Christmas break with a big win in Königssee.
Grecu and brakewoman Ioana Gheorghewere the fastest off the top of the track, and were the quickest at every split on their way to a .45 second win over France’s Margot Boch.
Boch held onto her silver medal, taking a .01 second lead over Belgium’s An Vannieuwenhuyse into the second run and holding onto that advantage for her second career women’s bobsled silver medal. Vannieuwenhuyse finished with her first bronze of the season.
China put two women in the top five, with Mingming Huai and Qing Ying finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Maria Constantin finished sixth in her second race competing for Germany.
Melissa Lotholz led the way for Canada, moving up from 11th in the first heat to ninth. Cynthia Appiah finished 16th, while Kori HOl finished 17th and Bianca Ribi 19th to round out the Canadian effort. All four women moved up from their first heat’s positions.
Breeana Walker sat fourth after the first heat, but fell back to seventh on her second run. Aussie teammate Ashleigh Werner finished 18th in her first women’s bobsled race in Königssee.
German pilots Laura Nolte and Anna Köhler did not race.
