Dec. 14, 2019 – Corie Mapp won gold to both sweep the Parabbosled World Cup stop in Oberhof and win the IBSF Parabobsled European Championship.
Mapp came into the second run of the day just .03 ahead of Switzerland’s Christopher Stewart. On the second run Stewart was quick, but Mapp was again quicker, with Mapp pulling away to win by a decisive .36 over Stewart to win both the World Cup race and European Championship.
Stewart finished second, while Latvia’s Arturs Klots jumped up from fifth to win bronze.
Italy’s Flavio Mendardi fnished a career-best fourth, ahead of Canada’s Lonnie Bissonnette and Italy’s Pier Buccoliero. Bissonnette moved up from ninth in the first heat for his fifth place finish on the strength of a second-quickest run in the second heat.
The United States struggled to find speed in Oberhof over the weekend. Tammy Landeen finished 13th to lead the way for the Americans, one spot and a tenth of a second ahead of teammate Guillermo Castillo.
