From Whistler, CAN
Dec. 14, 2019 – Sascha Eggert & Toni Benecken won their second FIL World Cup race of the season, coming from behind to win in Whistler.
The German duo came into the second heat just .006 behind teammates Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt, turning the race into effectively a one-heat race.
On the second run Eggert & Benecken put down a track record run to put the pressure on Wendl & Arlt. Wendl & Arlt were close to their teammates but couldn’t quite match Eggert & Benecken’s time, giving Eggert & Benecken the win by just .059 seconds.
Russians Vsevolod Kashkin & Konstantin Korshunov moved up from fifth to third to win bronze.
Thomas Steu & Lorenz Koller finished fourth, just .012 ahead of Robin Geueke & David Gamm of Germany in fifth. Canadians Tristan Walker & Justin Snith finished sixth.
Usually Walker & Snith are the only Canadian duo in the doubles ranks, but the team of Caitlin Nash & Natalie Corless became the first women’s duo to lead a doubles race early in the second heat. They finished 22nd in the 23 sled field.
Americans Chris Mazdzer & Jayson Terdiman finished 11th, moving up from 13th in their first heat.
