From Oberhof, GER
Dec. 13, 2019 – Great Britain’s Corie Mapp won his second straight IBSF Parabobsled gold medal, cruising to victory in Oberhof.
Mapp carried a .2 second advantage going into the second heat of competition over Arturs Klots of Latvia, and while Klots managed to keep it close in the second heat, he could not make up the first heat deficit, giving Mapp the win.
The win gave Mapp his ninth career IBSF Parabobsled World Cup gold medal overall, and his third in Oberhof.
Guillermo Castillo of the United States finished in third to win his first career IBSF bronze medal in just his seventh start.
Pier Buccoliero finished fourth, ahead of Canada’s Lonnie Bissonnette. Switzerland’s Christopher Stewart rounded out the top six.
Outside of Castillo’s performance, the United States struggled to find speed in Oberhof. Frederick Evans moved up from 16th to 15th on his second run, while Tammy Landeen finished just inside of the top 20 in 18th. Sarah Frazier-Kim finished 21st and while Steven Jacobo finished the first heat in 22nd, he did not start the second heat.
Canada’s Lee Thibeault finished tied for tenth with Switzerland’s Jonas Frei.
