Nov. 24, 2019 – Rostislav Gaitiukevich cruised to victory in the IBSF European Cup opener in Lillehammer, winning his first career IBSF gold medal.
The Russian pilot was quickest at every split along the 1994 Olympic track on his way to a .27 victory over French pilot Romain Heinrich.
Prior to his gold medal, Gaitiukevich had three consecutive silver medals to close out his 2018/2019 4-man season. For Heinrich, the silver medal was his first 4-man medal at any level since the Calgary stop of the 2015/2016 season.
Switzerland’s Michael Kuonen finished third, with Mihai Tentea, Aleksandr Bredikhin, and Maximilian Illmann rounding out the top six.
Oskars Melbardis finished eighth in his return to 4-man competition.
