From Sochi, RUS
Nov. 24, 2019 – Susanne Kreher went two-for-two on the Sochi stop of the Intercontinental Cup tour, winning both races in Russia to open the 2019/2020 season.
A day after edging out Renata Khuzina, Kreher once again found herself needing to hold off the young Russian to secure gold. Kreher was out-started by Khuzina in both heats, but slid better than anyone else on the 2014 Olympic track on her way to a .35 second victory over Khuzina.
The win was Kreher’s third straight, dating back to the 2018/2019 season, while the pair of silver medals for Khuzina were her career-best in ICC competition.
Madelaine Smith finished third for Great Britain, a tenth of a second ahead of Russian Anastasia Trufanova. Smith’s teammate, Ashleigh Pittaway, finished with her second straight fifth place finish, while Alena Frolova finished sixth.
The bronze medal for Smith was a career best on the ICC circuit. She has two gold medals on the European Cup, both in Igls.
Kelly Curtis was the top-scoring American again in eighth place, while teammates Kristen Hurley and Sara Roderick finished just outside of the top ten in 12th and 13th place respectively.
Katie Tannenbaum finished 14th for the US Virgin Islands.
