From Lake Placid, USA
Nov. 20, 2019 – Wenqiang Geng won the season opening North American Cup men’s skeleton race in Lake Placid.
The Chinese slider won his second NAC gold medal of his career, beating out Nathan Crumpton and Martin Rosenberger.
Geng was the quickest in both heats on his way to a .47 second victory over Nathan Crumpton. German Martin Rosenberger finished third in his first ever North American Cup start.
The gold medal was the second for Geng on the North American Cup tour, while the silver medal for Crumpton was his first ever IBSF medal.
Nick Timmings finished fourth for Australia, while 2015/2016 NAC men’s skeleton champion Ander Mirambell finished fifth. Hayisaer Asaierhazi finished sixth in his second NAC start.
Daniel Barefoot finished just outside of the top six in seventh place, while teammates Chris Strup, Zach Goodwin, and Kyler Sultermeirer finished ninth, 11th, and 17th respectively.
Troy Wilson was the top finishing Canadian in 15th, while Jordan Rwiyamilira joined him in the top 20 in 19th place. James Airey just missed a top-20 run in 21st, while Patrick Farias came into his second run in 19th but crashed on his second run, scoring a DNF.
