From Umhausen, AUT
(Feb. 16, 2019) – Patrick Pigneter won his first singles gold medal of the season in Umhausen, edging out eventual season champion Thomas Kammerlander in the process.

Pigneter set the fast run of the day in the first heat to open up .45 second advantage on the Austrian. Kammerlander managed to post the fastest time in the second heat, but it wasn’t nearly enough to hold off the Italian, with Pigneter eventually winning by .38 over Kammerlander.
The Austrian finished second, with Alex Gruber finishing third. The two men were in a fierce battle all season long for the season championship, with Gruber needing to beat Kammerlander by one position in Austria to take the title. In the end, Gruber fell .44 short, finishing third in the race and second on the season.
Michael Scheikl, Florian Clara, and Florian Glatzl finished fourth through sixth. Italy and Austria took the top eight places on the day, with Russia’s athletes finishing ninth through 12th.
Kammerlander’s title is his third consecutive. He and Pigneter are the only two men to win the overall title in the 2010s.
