From Umhausen, AUT
(Feb. 16, 2019) – Evelin Lanthaler won gold in Umhausen to sweep the 2018/2019 FIL Natural Track season, edging out teammate Greta Pinggera in the process.
Lanthaler came into the final women’s run of the season .04 seconds behind her teammate and rival Pinggera. On the second run Lanthaler threw down a race-fastest run to put the pressure on Pinggera. Pinggera couldn’t answer, finishing almost a full second behind Lanthaler on the heat, with the final margin of victory from Lanthaler to Pinggera .92 seconds.
The gold medal for Lanthaler meant a season sweep on the 2018/2019 FIL season, making her the first slider to do so since Patrick Pigneter & Florian Clara swept the season in the 2015/2016 FIL season. It’s also the second straight season championship for Lanthaler.
Pinggera’s silver medal was her fourth medal of the season and sixth overall. The only race in which she failed to medal was the back half of the Moscow double header.
Ekaterina Lavrenetva finished third, 1.51 seconds behind Lathaler. Despite the deficit tot he lead, she still held a 1.4 second advantage over Tina Unterberger in fourth. Christa Unterholzner and Michelle Diepold rounded out the top six.
Lanthaler’s final point tally on the season was an even 700, 165 ahead of Pinggera and 195 ahead of Lavrenteva.
