From Sigulda, LAT
(Jan. 25, 2019) – Christof Hafer won gold in Sigula, edging out home-track pilot Ralfs Berzins for the position.
Berzins led Hafer by .06 in the first heat, but could only muster a fifth quickest run in the second heat. Hafer capitalized with the quickest run in the second heat to take gold. Berzins would settle for second, .07 behind the German.
Michael Kuonen finished with a bronze medal, only .02 ahead of Rostislav Gaitiukevich. Simon Friedli and Mihai Tentea rounded out the top six.
The 2-man race was the third of the season in Sigulda for Hafer, who finished in the top six in both World Cup races held earlier this year.
German Richard Oelsner finished 12th, and that coupled with Friedli’s fifth place finish puts Friedly just 40 points out of the European Cup lead with just one race to go.
