From Moscow, RUS
(Jan. 20, 2019) – Evelin Lanthaler stayed perfect on the 2018/2019 FIL season, edging out Ekaterina Lavrenteva for the second straight day to win gold.
The Italian came into the second heat .11 behind the Russian, but put down the fastest run of the race in the second heat to put pressure on Lavrenteva. The Russian couldn’t answer, and finished .15 back to settle for silver.
Tina Unterberger finished with a bronze medal, a tenth of a second ahead of Alexandra Pfattner of Italy in fourth. Greta Pinggera and Sara Bachmann finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Lanthaler’s win gives her a commanding lead in the season points. She currently sits 105 points ahead of teammate Greta Pinggera, and will need to struggle mightily in the last few races for Pinggera to have a shot at overtaking her.
