From Calgary, CAN
(Jan. 11, 2019) – Jisoo Kim won his first IBSF international race to close out the 2018/2019 men’s skeleton season on the North American Cup.
The Korean slider was the quickest in both heats on his way to a .35 victory over Zheng Yin of China. The gold medal is his second medal in as many events, having finished second in North American Cup Race 7.
Yin finished a strong second in just his second international start. The Chinese junior was the quickest off the top in both heats, and was the quickest at every timing line but the final one in both heats. His second run propelled him from fourth after the first heat to second overall.
British slider Craig Thompson scored a bronze medal to go with his previous day’s gold medal.
Andrew Blaser, crowned the 2018/2019 North American Cup champion a day prior, finished fourth, ahead of Canadians Patrick Rooney and Mark Lynch.
Canada had a strong showing in Calgary, finishing the season with all four men in the top 8. On top of Rooney and Lynch’s finishes, Blake Enzie and Kyle Murray tied for eighth.
For the United States, Daniel Barefoot finished just outside of the top ten in 11th place, while Chris Strup finished 14th and Max DeLance 17th.
