From Calgary, CAN
(Jan. 10, 2019) – Craig Thompson cruised to North American Cup victory to win his second gold of the 2018/2019 season.
Thompson was the quickest off the top in both heats, and fastest at every timing line but one on his way to a .31 victory over Korea’s Jisoo Kim.
The win was Thompson’s second of the season (Igls ICC, 11.15.2018) and first in North American Cup competition, while the the silver for Kim was a career-best at any level.
Mark Lynch finished a career-high third, .76 off the pace set by Thompson.
Andrew Blaser finished fourth, ahead of Patrick Rooney and Zilong Zhu, who finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Aside from Blaser’s fourth place run, the United States struggled north of the border. Daniel Barefoot finished 13th, while Max DeLance and Chris Strup finished 16th and 17th.
Canada slid well on home ice. On top of two top fives, Blake Enzie finished just out of the top six in seventh place, while Kyle Murray just missed a top ten run in 11th.
With his fourth place finish, Andrew Blaser clinched the 2018/2019 North American Cup title. Coming into Calgary, Nick Timmings was the only slider within shouting distance of Blaser, but with Timmings missing the Calgary stop on tour, Blaser took the overall title.
