From Calgary, CAN
(Dec. 21, 2018) – Andreas Kapfinger held on to win his first gold medal of the 2018/2019 Para World Cup season, edging out point leader Lonnie Bissonnette in the process.
The Austrian held a slight .05 second advantage over Israel’s Dave Nicholls going into the second heat, with Bissonnette only .12 behind in third. Nicholls was only fourth quickest in the second heat and fell not only behind Bissonnette but also American Christ Rasmussen, who finished third. Kapfinger’s second run was only third quickest, but enough to hold off Bissonnette to win gold.
Bissonnette finished with his first silver of the season, while Rasmussen’s bronze was his first of the season as well.
Corie Mapp finished a season-best sixth ,just ahead of the United States’ Steven Jacobo in seventh. Barry Schroeder finished tenth to round out the American effort.
