From Lake Placid, USA
(Dec. 16, 2018) – Leading up to the World Cup race in Lake Placid, the 2018/2019 season had been all but forgettable for Olympic silver medalist Dajana Eitberger. Aside from a bronze medal run in the opening Spring World Cup race of the season, the German had struggled to piece two runs together. In Calgary it all came to a head, with Eitberger finishing 25th.
In Lake Placid, Eitberger found her form and cruised to victory, setting a new track record in the process.
Eitberger was the quickest in both heats, breaking the track record in the first heat on her way to a .031 victory over teammate Natalie Geisenberger. The win was the first for Eitberger since the 2017/2018 race in Oberhof.
Geisenberger finished second, two tenths ahead of Julia Taubitz, with Taubitz finishing third to finish out a German sweep of the podium.
The United States finished fourth through sixth, with Emily Sweeney edged out of the medals in fourth. Summer Britcher finished fifth, while Brittney Arndt finished a career best sixth place finish on the strength of the third quickest run in the second heat.
Canadian Kimberley McRae finished seventh, while teammates Brooke Apshkrum and Carolyn Maxwell finished 22nd and 23rd respectively. Raychel Germaine finished 17th to round out the American effort.
