From Königssee, GER
(Dec. 6, 2018) – Hannah Neise won her first IBSF European Cup race, beating out a huge field in Königssee to win gold.
Neise came into her second run behind teammate Janine Becker, but had a race-fastest second run to put pressure on her teammate. Becker answered with an otherwise nice run, but only good enough for silver, with Neise winning gold. Ashleigh Pittaway finished with a bronze medal in her first European Cup start of the season.
The gold medal for Neise is her fifth European Cup medal, and her eighth consecutive EC top six over the course of three seasons.
Germany’s Luise Hornung finished fourth, ahead of Australian Olympian Jackie Narracott in fifth, while Josefa Schellmoser finished a strong showing for Germany in sixth.
Becker’s silver medal was plenty enough to move her into the European Cup lead after four events, with Neise just behind her. British sliders Madelaine Smith and Kimberley Murray did not start in Königssee’s European Cup event and dropped to third and fourth overall.
Hannah Stevenson continued a strong start to the IBSF season in eighth for Great Britain, while Samantha Culiver McQuade finished 15th as the lone American in the field.
North American Cup point leader Leslie Stratton finished 24th in her first European Cup race of the year.
