From Winterberg, GER
(Nov. 24, 2018) – Great Britain’s Kimberley Murray has missed the top spot of the podium multiple times, scoring medals in both European Cup and Intercontinental Cup action. In the third race of the European Cup season, she finally struck gold.
Murray faced a challenge from German Janine Becker, who had the fast run of the second heat to put pressure on Murray. While the British slider couldn’t keep up the pace in the second run, her second trip down the Winterberg track was quick enough to keep her ahead of Becker by .09 to win gold.
Becker finished second, while Murray’s teammate Madelaine Smith finished third for her third consecutive EC medal.
Germany took the next three spots, with Luisa Hornung, Josefa Schellmoser, and Hannah Neise rounding out the top six.
Hannah Stevenson and Philippa Wellington both finished in the top ten, with Stevenson eighth and Wellington ninth to close out a banner day for the British in European Cup action.
