From Igls, AUT
(Nov. 16, 2018) – Marcus Wyatt won his first IBSF international gold medal in the second ICC race of the 2018/2019 season, edging Korean Seunggi Jung to do so.
Wyatt carried less than a tenth of a second lead over contenders Samuel Maier and Seunggi Jung going into the second heat. Jung put the pressure on the British slider, setting the quick time of the second heat. Wyatt answered, finishing his second run with a combined downtime that was only .08 ahead of the Korean but enough for gold.
Jung finished with the silver medal, while Maier finished with a bronze.
The gold medal was the first for Wyatt after a handful of near misses during his 2017/2018 breakout campaign, and the gold is his seventh top six finish in ten races.
Season opening gold medalist Craig Thompson finished fourth, ahead of Kilian von Schleinitz and Jisoo Kim, who rounded out the top six.
Mike Rogals was the top finishing North American in 13th place, while his teammates Nathan Crumpton and Stephen Garbett finished 17th and 22nd, respectively.
A tough weekend for the Canadians wrapped up with Kyle Murray as the only slider in the top 20, finishing 20th. Patrick Rooney finished 21st and Mark Lynch 25th.
