From Umhausen, AUT
Feb. 17, 2018 – Italian Evelin Lanthaler cruised to victory in Umhausen to take her second World Cup title in three seasons.
The Italian had clinched the overall title when Greta Pinggera failed to qualify for the final race of the season. Had Pinggera competed and won the event, she would have won the title over Lanthaler in an identical fashion as in the 2016/2017 season.
Without Pinggera in the race, Lanthaler took over, winning by .82 over Germany’s Sarah Bachmann.
Bachmann’s silver medal was the best of her season, while Tina Unterberger of Austria finished with her second medal of the season with a bronze.
Alexandra Pfattner finished fourth for the second time in as many races, while Michelle Diepold and Daniela Mittermair rounded out the top six.
Despite missing the final race of the season, Pinggera finished second in the World Cup standings, ahead of Unterberger.
