From Umhausen, AUT
Feb. 17, 2018 – Patrick Pigneter & Florian Clara won the 2017/2018 World Cup on natural track, clinching it with a win in Umhausen.
The Italian duo simply needed to finish in the top half of the field to clinch their title, and found themselves in second behind Russians Pavel Porshnev & Ivan Lazarev going into the second run.
On their second trip down Umhausen, Pigneter & Clara put the pressure on the Russians on the strength of a heat-fastest run. Porshne & Lazarev couldn’t answer, coming down .4 slower and handing the victory to the Italians.
The World Cup title is the fourth in five years for Pigneter & Clara, with Porshnev & Lazarev being the only other team to win in that time (2016/2017 World Cup season). Over the course of the 2017/2018 campaign, Pigneter & Clara won all but one event (a sixth place in Deutschnofen, Italy).
Porshnev & Lazarev finished second, ahead of teammates Aleksandr Egorov & Petr Popov, who finished third.
The Austrian duos of Brüggler & Angerer and Achenrainer & Brugger finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Folie & Gaio rounded out the top six.
