From Lillehammer, NOR
(Jan. 20, 2018) Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken have been nearly flawless on the 2017/2018 World Cup tour. They continued that near-perfection in Lillehammer.
The German duo were the fastest in each heat, setting a track record in their first run and a start record in their second on their way to a .130 victory over Austrians Peter Penz & Georg Fischler.
The win for Eggert and Benecken was their eighth on the season. The pair have yet to finish off the podium, having finished no worse than second all season (Königssee and the Winterberg Sprint events).
Penz & Fischler’s silver medal is their fifth this season, and save for one disastrous weekend in Winterberg, they haven’t been outside of the top five all season.
Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt finished third, while the teams of Sics & Sics, Gudramovics & Kalnins, and Denisev & Antonov rounded out the top six.
The American duo of Matt Mortensen & Jayson Terdiman had a rough run in the first heat that left them in 13th. A fifth-fastest second run moved them up the order to a finish of eighth. Teammates Justin Krewson & Andrew Sherk also moved up from 12th to 11th in the second run.
Canadians Tristan Walker & Justin Snith struggled to find their form in Norway, but did move up from 15th to 12th in the second heat.
