From Oberhof, GER
(Jan. 13, 2018) Germany swept the women’s luge podium for the fourth time this season, this time with Dajana Eitberger leading the way.
Eitberger carried a .059 lead over Natalie Geisenberger into her second run. Geisenberger rallied back, setting a track record in her second trip down to put the pressure on Eitberger. Eitberger held her ground though, finishing her second run with .047 to spare to win her second race of the 2017/2018 FIL season.
Tatjana Hüfner, who sat out last week’s race in Königssee, finished third.
Tatyana Ivanova finished fourth, ahead of Switzerland’s Martina Kocher and the United States’ Summer Britcher.
Alex Gough led the way for Canada with a seventh place finish, while Kimberley McRae helped put two Canadian sleds in the top ten. Brooke Apshkrum finished 20th.
The United States’ Erin Hamlin came into the second heat in fifth place, trailing only the four German sleds in the field. She was unable to replicate that run in the second heat and fell to eighth.
Emily Sweeney sat out of the race with a sore neck.
