From Latzfons, ITA
(Jan. 7, 2018) Italian Patrick Pigneter won the gold medal alongside Florian Clara in doubles competition. A day later he took gold again, this time in singles competition.
Pigneter carried a .1 second advantage over teammate Alex Gruber going into the second run in Latzfons. On that second run, Gruber slipped up, handing the lead to Austrian Thomas Kammerlander with only Pigneter to come.
Pigneter could only muster the second-quickest time (behind Kammerlander), but it was enough to hold the Austrian off and take gold.
Kammerlander finished second, with Gruber in third.
Italians took four of the top five positions, with Stefan Federer in fourth and Florian Breitenberger in fifth. Russian Aleksandr Egorov finished sixth.
Kiwi slider Jack Leslie finished 15th, while British luger Joshua Reeves finished 25th.
