From Königssee, GER
(Jan. 6, 2018) Much like their doubles teammates, the German women swept the podium in Königssee.
For the fifth time in the 2017/2018 season, Natalie Geisenberger led the way for Germany. Geisenberger had the second-quickest start in the first heat, and was behind at the first couple of timing lines, but after that both heats were all Geisenberger as she cruissed to a .103 victory.
Dajana Eitberger finished second with the second-fastest run in both heats. Teammate Jessica Tiebel, in this week’s race because of Tatjana Hüfner taking a week off for recovery, moved up from fourth to third in her second run to help the German sweep of the podium.
Swiss slider Martina Kocher finished fourth, while Summer Britcher was the top-finishing American in fifth. Canadian Alex Gough finished sixth.
Emily Sweeney just missed the top six with a seventh place run, while Erin Hamlin finished 11th in what is likely her final race in Königssee.
German Julia Taubitz was disqualified after her first heat due to an incorrect gap between the runner and steels.
