From Calgary, CAN
(Dec. 8, 2017) For the second time this season Felix Loch came away with a gold medal in men’s luge, this time cruising to a .386 victory over Canadian Sam Edney.
Loch was a model of consistency on a track where other athletes struggled to put two runs together. Coming into the second heat, Loch led Russian Roman Repilov by just over .2. Repilov struggled at the the top of the Calgary track, dropping from second to third on his final run, and giving the edge to Canadian Sam Edney, who moved up from fourth to second to win silver. Repilov finished with a bronze medal, just ahead of Mitchel Malyk, who dropped from second to fourth.
The gold for Loch is his fourth medal in as many World Cup races.
Germany rounded out the top six with Johannes Ludwig finishing fifth and Andi Langenhan sixth.
The tough year for the American men’s luge squad continued, withh Chris Mazdzer leading the way with a 14th place finish. Tucker West finished two spots behind him in 16th, while Taylor Morris and John Fennell finished 20th and 23rd respectively.
Reid Watts finished 17th as the third Canadian athlete in the field:
