From Lake Placid, USA
(Dec. 2, 2017) Corie Mapp of Great Britain won his first gold medal of the season in Lake Placid, holding off a charge from Canadian Lonnie Bissonnette in the process.
Bissonnette came into the second run in fourth place, but put down the quickest run of the second heat. That run was enough to leapfrog both Annija Krumina and Alvils Brants of Latvia into the silver medal position with only Mapp to go. Mapp’s second run wasn’t perfect, but it was enough to hold off the Canadian by .16 to take gold.
Krumina and Christopher Stewart tied for bronze, while Barry Schroeder and Brants rounded out the top six.
Lee Kuxhaus finished a season-best seventh for the United States, while teammates Dawn Macomber, Dave Nicholls, and Jason Sturm finished tenth through twelfth respectively.
