From Calgary, CAN
(Nov. 23, 2017) Jason Sturm was great in his first run of the 2017/2018 Para Bobsled World Cup in Calgary, and good in his second. That second run, though, was still plenty good enough to give the American a win in the opening round of the IBSF Para Bobsled World Cup.
Sturm was the quickest at nearly every split on his first run to open nearly a .8 second advantage over Canadian Lonnie Bissonnette. Bissonnette was quickest in the second heat to close the gap, but Sturm managed to hold off Bissonnette by a mere .06 to take gold. Bissonnette won silver, while Alvils Brants of Latvia took bronze.
Swiss slider Christopher Stewart finished 4th, ahead of Andreas Kapfinger of Austria and Barry Schroeder of the United States.
Dawn Macomber finished ninth for the United States, while Darryl Tait finished 11th.
Corie Mapp finished eighth in the lone British sled.
