(Nov. 18, 2017) German Corinna Leipold became the first non-British slider to win in European Cup women’s skeleton action.
Leipold came into the second heat of the fourth EC race of the season tied with Russian Alina Tararychenkova, less than .2 ahead of Susanne Kreher and third race winner Brogan Crowley. Leipold’s second run put her in the lead and put the pressure on Tararychenkova. The Russian couldn’t answer, only scoring the fourth-fastest run of the heat to finish .31 behind Leipold.
Crowley made it four medals in four races with a bronze medal, just ahead of Kreher, who finished fourth. Maria Marinela Mazilu of Romania finished fifth, with British slider Eleanor Furneaux finishing sixth.
American Kellie Delka finished ninth, while teammate Leslie Stratton finished 16th.
