From Lake Placid, USA
(Nov. 9, 2017) Much has been made of the friendly rivalry between American Elana Meyers Taylor and Canadian Kaillie Humphries. As the 2017/2018 season kicked off in Lake Placid, that rivalry appears set to carry on into the 2018 Games.
Humphries carried a .11 advantage over Meyers Taylor going into the second heat, but Meyers Taylor wasn’t about to let Humphries walk into her home ice and just walk away with the race. Meyers Taylor came back strong, setting the fast run in the second heat to close the gap on the Olympic champion. It turned out to not be enough however, as Kaillie Humphries finished her second run .03 ahead of the overall pace set by Meyers Taylor.
Stephanie Schneider of Germany edged American Jamie Greubel Poser by just .01 for bronze on Greubel Poser’s birthday, despite strong pushes by Greubel Poser and brakewoman Aja Evans.
Greubel Poser finished fourth, well ahead of German Mariama Jamanka and Canadian Christine de Bruin, who finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Alysia Rissling rounded out the Canadian effort in seventh place, while Great Britain’s Mica McNeill finished eighth, .02 ahead of the USA’s Brittany Reinbolt.
