The German team of Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken dominated both heats in Sigulda to win their sixth gold medal of the 2016/2017 season. They were quickest from the start all the way down in both runs to cruise to a .363 victory over Oskars Gudramovics & Peteris Kalninis of Latvia.
The Latvians, sliding on their home ice, were the second quickest in both heats, taking a season-best silver medal, well ahead of the Italian duo of Ludwig Rieder & Patrick Rastner, who finished with a bronze.
The Russian team of Vladislav Yuzhakov & Iurii Prokhorov finished a season-best fourth in just their third World Cup race of the season, besting Italians Christian Oberstolz & Patrick Gruber and Americans Matt Mortensen & Jayson Terdiman, who rounded out the top six.
The second American duo of Justin Krewson & Andrew Sherk finished 16th, two spots ahead of Canadians Tristan Walker & Justin Snith.
The race was marred by four crashes, including a first run crash by the German team of Robin Geueke & David Gamm, who until this point of the year had been having a breakout season.
