From Winterberg, GER
Elana Meyers Taylor has had a lot of success in Winterberg, scoring a World Championships gold medal, and a handful of silver and bronze medals in World Cup action. Today she scored another gold.
The American came into her second run just .06 off the pace set by German Mirama Jamanka, and only .01 behind teammate Jamie Greubel Poser. Unlike the other leaders, Meyers Taylor was quicker in her second run, moving ahead of both Greubel Poser and Jamanka to take the win.
Despite falling behind Meyers Taylor, Jamanka managed to hold on to a silver medal, while Greubel Poser scored a bronze medal for the United States.
The weather appeared to have played a factor throughout the second heat. Early in the run, most teams were anywhere from a tenth to a half-second faster. However, as the heat went on times dropped, with some of the best women in the world coming down slower. Of the last eight sleds down, only Meyers Taylor was able to find more speed in her second run.
Nadezhda Sergeeva finished fourth in the top-scoring Russian sled, just ahead of Canadian Kaillie Humphries and Chrsitina Hengster of Austria.
Winterberg also doubled as the European Championships. Moving the non-European sleds out, Jamanka took the EC gold, ahead of Sergeeva and Hengster.
Brittany Reinbolt continued to get the hang of the European tracks in her first full season as a World Cup pilot, finishing 13th. Canadians Alysia Rissling and Christine de Bruin finished 12th and 18th, respectively.
British pilot Mica McNeill overcame a rough weekend in Altenberg with a tenth place finish in Winterberg.
